Generic Vagifem To Treat Menopausal Symptoms Now Available

Menopause can be a big shift in a woman’s life.

Sometimes it causes vaginal changes that can be bothersome to most, such as dryness, pain and bleeding during intercourse, soreness, itching, painful urination, or irritation.

In medical terms, this is known as ‘vaginal atrophy’. It is caused by a drop in the levels of estrogen in your body. This happens naturally after menopause.

The good news is that estradiol can treat some of these changes. However, not all estrogens are the same; there are several different forms of estrogens. Estradiol is the same estrogen that your body makes.

What Is Vagifem?

Vagifem ® (estradiol vaginal inserts) 10 mcg, a local vaginal estrogen therapy, is brand estradiol vaginal tablets manufactured by Novo Nordisk. This medication is used to treat menopausal changes in and around the vagina.

Vagifem belongs to a group of medications called vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

Generic Vagifem is now available!

Vagirux, estradiol vaginal tablets, is generic Vagifem. This affordable generic prescription medication is used to treat vaginal atrophy due to estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women, and now American patients can order it!

What Is Vagirux

Vagirux is licensed to relieve menopausal symptoms in the vagina due to estrogen deficiency. Each vaginal tablet contains 10 micrograms estradiol. The active ingredient, synthetic 17β-estradiol, same as in Vagifem, is chemically and biologically identical to endogenous human estradiol.

Vagirux may be used in women with or without an intact uterus.

How Vagirux Works

Vagirux works by replacing the estrogen ba  which is normally produced in the ovaries of women. It is inserted into your vagina, so the hormone is released where it is needed. This may relieve discomfort in the vagina.

How to Take Vagirux?

Vagirux is administered intravaginally as a local estrogen therapy by use of an applicator. This 10 mcg vaginal tablet comes in a box of 24 tablets with a multiple-use applicator sealed separately in foil.

Treatment may be started on any convenient day.

  • Initial dose: One vaginal tablet daily for two weeks.
  • Maintenance dose: One vaginal tablet twice a week.

Good to Know

  • Vaginal infections should be treated before start of the Vagirux therapy.
  • The applicator can be used up to 24 times. Thereafter, throw it away via the household waste. A new applicator should be used with every new pack.
  • The use of HRT carries risks which need to be considered when deciding whether to start taking it, or whether to carry on taking it.

Have been using vagifem for a number of years with really good results, have just been changed over to vagirux with its one single applicator for 3 months use. This applicator is not fit for purpose, after around five uses the top of applicator becomes distorted and tablet does not fit in well, after a few more uses plastic around top starts to disintegrate. Impossible to insert these tablets by finger as too fiddly.
I clean applicator with cool water so not to distort it, I am a retired midwife so well aware of what I am doing!

Hi again Maggie. Our pharmacy partner in the UK suggests being extra gentle when washing the applicator and following the cleaning process provided which is:
Clean the applicator according to the following cleaning procedure:
Withdraw the plunger from the applicator.
Clean both parts (tube and plunger) with mild soap and rinse with warm tap water for 5 seconds.
Rinse the tube inner and outer surface.- If necessary, remove larger amounts of remaining water from both parts (tube and plunger) by short shaking-off the water.-
Dry both parts (tube and plunger) on the air on a clean surface (e.g. clean paper fleece).
Introduce the plunger again in the applicator-tube for the next use of the applicator. The applicator can be used up to 24 times.

If you have already done this with out any success, I suggest switching back to Vagifem as this product comes with 24 applicators so you don’t have to concern yourself with the cleaning process. I believe we have excellent pricing on this product as well. Please contact our patient representatives at 1-844-424-3276 and they will be able to assist you. They can also forward you to a Canadian pharmacist to discuss this issue with you further if you’d prefer.

Kind regards Maggie.
